ACCT 520G Advanced Strategic Management Accounting

This course focuses on the accountant¿s role in managerial strategic planning and control decisions. Utilizing both financial and nonfinancial information, students measure, evaluate, predict, and report on organizational performance. The course employs data-driven formats and current software tools to cover strategic cost management topics. Sensitivity and goal seeking analysis, as well as dashboard visualizations, are applied to support organizational decision making.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Use data driven financial and non-financial information to conduct cost and management accounting calculations for analysis in organizations.
  • Compare impacts of various cost accounting methodologies on perceptions of performance in a data driven and strategic decision-making environment.
  • Evaluate the application of management accounting topics using data analytics to understand the strategic implications of those topics.
  • Formulate recommendations, using software tools to analyze data and prepare visual analyses based on cost accounting data.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical considerations in management accounting.
