SOWK 552 ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Research and Advocacy
This course is the second course in the research sequence and is offered at the end of the senior year. Students conduct a major advocacy research project focusing on an issue of concern to a community of color within the Twin Cities. Students learn to apply research theories, practice racial/ethnic analysis and social change to a real-life situation.

General
- Analyze the transferability of a research/advocacy project to their understanding of generalist social work practice.
- Apply social science research methodology to a community issue.
- Articulate the potential strengths and weaknesses of using research to affect community change.
- Evaluate their effectiveness as work group member
- Know generalist social work practice with groups and communities well enough to work effectively with a community agency or group.
- Work as a member of a group in the completion of a social science research project with advocacy potential.
- Work as a member of a group in the population and presentation of a research/advocacy project.
- Work effectively with a university/community research group.
